Our Story

Our History

We are a seasonal consignment sale dedicated to selling the highest quality boutique and designer clothing for children, juniors, and women.  We also sell shoes, accessories, toys, small household items, and more.

Since 2006, our mission has been to offer other mothers a way to earn extra money for their families and to help shoppers find the children's clothing they desire most at a fraction of the cost.

We started with six racks and a handful of tables in a small storefront on Cook Street in downtown Barrington and have grown to fill a 12,000 square foot space. Over the years, we have moved our location half a dozen times. With each move, we have added equipment and square footage to make our sale run as efficiently as possible. We spent many years in person at Canlan Sportsplex but with Covid, we transitioned our event to ONLINE ONLY.  We have successfully added many more categories of items to sell and now offer shipping on clothing and accessories across the country.  Our shoppers love the convenience of shopping "on the go" and our sellers love that they only drop off their items that sold.

Meet Jenny

Hello!  I am Jenny Welsh, owner of Growing Cents of Style.  I started GCOS in the Fall of 2006 as a young stay-at-home mom looking for ways to add to my family's income.  I found there were a lot of other families who were looking to sell their children's gently-used items.  Having previously worked as an event planner, I put my skills to work!  I have loved to watch GCOS grow and the families that have come along on this journey.  I have many sellers and shoppers who have been with me from the very beginning!

I recently celebrated my 25th wedding anniversary and have four daughters who have all helped with the sale along the way.  I have really enjoyed the challenge of transitioning to an online event.  We were forced to do so during the pandemic but found that this new format solved a lot of the pain points that were dealt with while running an in-person event. With rising costs of operation, staffing challenges, and space limitations, the online world has offered us the opportunity to grow in so many new ways!

When not running the sale, I keep busy with visiting my college kids, traveling, and managing our many animals!
