Our History

A seasonal children's consignment sale dedicated to selling the highest quality boutique and designer clothing (sizes newborn - size 16), shoes, accessories and baby gear.

Since 2006, our mission has been to offer other mothers a way to earn extra money for their families and to help shoppers find the children's clothing they desire most at a fraction of the cost.

We started with 6 racks and a handful of tables in a small storefront on Cook Street in downtown Barrington and have grown to fill a 12,000 square foot space. Over the years we have moved our location half a dozen times. With each move we have added equipment and square footage to make our sale run as efficiently as possible. After many successful sales at adjacent to Treetime Christmas Creations we are excited about our new location at Canlan Sportsplex and creating our best shopping event yet.

About Jenny

I have lived in Barrington most of my life. When my husband and I were first married we lived in Seattle, WA but moved back to Barrington to raise our family after our twins were born. We now have four girls ranging in age from 13-19. In 2005, I was a stay at home mom looking for a way to earn a little extra money. I began to sell some of their outgrown clothing items on Ebay. Around the same time Hurricane Katrina hit and after watching the news I felt compelled to do something to try and help. I organized a neighborhood garage sale and we had many women showing up with bins of their “nicer” kids clothes. In talking with these women I realized they hadn’t wanted to initially just donate the items but at the same time didn’t had the time to try and sell them on Ebay. I started talking with another friend who mentioned that she had come across something called a “consignment sale” online. I started doing some research online about consignment sales and quickly realized that this was something that I wanted to try.

I started Growing Cents of Style in Fall of 2006 with a partner. We worked together for 5 years and then she decided to explore other opportunities. At that point, GCOS began a family affair and I began working with the wives of two of my brothers. Nikki became my floor manager while Michelle helps out as my checkout manager and keeping me organized.

I have had the opportunity to meet so many amazing families through running this event. I love to interact with the consignors and shoppers and feel that Growing Cents of Style is offering a chance for so many families to earn some additional income as well as get the items they desire for their children at a fraction of the cost.
